Wat?! “Simon Wiesenthal Center to be built on Muslim cemetery” #grafschennis

Ik moet zo direct weg (werk) maar niet voor ik het volgende met je heb kunnen delen. Het gaat om een wel heel vreemd bericht: 'Simon Wiesenthal Center to be built on Muslim Cemetery' (Moral Outrage, 21 september 2010).

Met bulldozers etc. schijnt er in Jeruzalem een moslimbegraafplaats geruimd te worden om plaats te maken voor een 'Museum of Tolerance' (waarom moet tolerantie in het museum, zou ik zeggen?). Het artikel op Moral Outrage eindigt met deze woorden:

"This cemetery, which stands in West Jerusalem for a thousand years, is now subject to the bulldozer of this organization. So that's the meaning of the word chutzpah: to say you stand for tolerance, and perform that kind of an act, is the most despicable kind of hypocrisy."

D.d. 5 maart jl. heeft het AIC (Alternative Information Center) een zgn. 'News from Within' podcast geüpload, gewijd aan de ontheiliging van deze begraafplaats.
Dit is de volledige tekst waarmee het AIC de video beschrijft (de rillingen lopen over mijn rug bij het lezen ervan, laat staan wat ik voel als ik de video zie!). NB: de highlights zijn van mijn hand.

''The US-based Center for Constitutional Rights is petitioning various United Nations offices, of Palestinian families whose ancestors are buried in the Mamila Cemetery.
The cemetery better known as Mamilla, has been a Muslim burial ground since the 7th century, when companions of the Prophet Muhammad were reputedly buried there.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Los Angeles based non-profit association, began to build a Museum of Tolerance on the grounds of the Maaman Allah cemetery in Jerusalem.
It [ ] also houses the remains of soldiers and officials of the Muslim ruler Saladin from the 12th century, as well as generations of important Jerusalem families and notables. The cemetery grounds also contain numerous monuments, structures, and gravestones attesting to its hallowed history, including the ancient Mamilla Pool, which dates back to the Herodian period, or the 1st century B.C.''
