(Anonieme) blijken van affectie worden weer per post verstuurd, per email, per koerier etcetera (vergeet niet Robert ten Brinks TV-programma All You Need Is Love). Velen zoeken hun heil bij datingsites zoals eDarling (sponsor van All You Need Is Love). eDarling heeft een wetenschappelijke methode om mensen aan elkaar te koppelen. Naar mijn heilige overtuiging is het nog steeds Allah, Heilig en Verheven, die mensen bij elkaar brengt (en eventueel weer doet scheiden) – wat niet betekent dat de mens alles aan Hem moet overlaten. ''Allah helpt alleen hen die zèlf hun land bewerken'' – óok daar waar het gaat om het aangaan van relaties.

Wetenschappelijke methodes om mensen tot elkaar te brengen. Dat klinkt scary. Scary zoals in dat hoorspel uit 1980, ''The God Machine''. Voor mij is ''The God Machine'' gedateerde science-fiction. Fictie, wat heet! Want in dit hoorspel, dat als blasfemisch beschouwd kan worden, heeft De Mens zijn eigen Opperwezen geschapen – en, nee, zeker niet naar Zijn Evenbeeld…

"It was mister Voltaire who said that if God did not exist, we should have to invent him. And through the ages this is what mankind has been doing. Since the dim and distant beginnings of the human race, the gods had come and gone. And each civilization, every society, donates another deity to the ever expanding pantheon. 'Throughout history there's always been the quest. The quest for what? Well. The quest for the secret. What secret? Once again, which particular secret do you wish to know? The secret of certainty? The secret of success? The secret of wealth, power, immortality? Thousands of years ago magicians would sacrifice a cow and claim to read 'the secret' in a study of the entrails. We call that: superstition. Today, when we wish to ascertain 'the secret', we send out people with clipboards who ask foolish questions. We call that: research. That's the way it goes. 'We began our little session with a discussion of the basic similarities between Ancient and Modern man. Ancient man had an entire pantheon of gods. And they had to be consulted before each and every venture. Today we demand the same services of a machine. Feed in the facts, factor in the data. The Ancients waited for the verdict of the oracle of Delphi, who was the priestess of Apollo. We wait for the verdict of the Computer. I wonder which in the long run has proofed more reliable?' Wat mij opvalt is dat bij het vergelijken van 'ancient' en 'modern man' de wereldgodsdiensten er wel heel erg bekaaid vanaf komen. Veel aandacht voor allerlei polytheïstische zooi uit het verleden – en dan dirèct door naar de Computer als Opperwezen. Af en toe wordt er in het hoorspel verwezen naar het christendom. Het jodendom en de islam heeft de schrijver van het hoorspel links laten liggen. Wellicht om zo makkelijker naar de onthulling toe te kunnen werken dat de Supercomputer uit het hoorspel God is. Astaghfiroellah! Toch blijft ''The God Machine'' voor mij in de éerste plaats gedateerde science-fiction. Zó gedateerd dat het interessant genoeg is om meerdere malen te beluisteren.


UPDATE FEB 27, 2011 Vandaag heb ik op Archive.org een documentaire bekeken die m.i. veel raakvlakken heeft met 'The God Machine'. Het gaat om de documentaire 'Welcome To North Korea' (NL, 2001) archive.org/details/WelcometoNorthKorea
